Implants For Growth Promotion In Beef Cattle

ثبت نشده
چکیده

F beef cattle management practices are more cost effective or have a higher return on investment than properly used growth promoting implants. Growth promoting implants are pellets that are implanted under the skin of the ear of growing calves. These pellets release extremely low concentrations of various hormones, which improve average daily gain 7 to 17 percent and feed efficiency 4 to 12 percent. Individual implant products are approved for specific types of cattle, such as nursing calves, breeding replacement heifers, weaned calves, or finishing cattle. Consult Table 1 for implants approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration and available for use in beef cattle. For further information on particular products, contact the appropriate product representative.

A REVIEW OF STUDIES OF TRENBOLONE Issue 10 ACETATE USE IN BEEF CATTLE October 1990

Trenbolone acetate (TBA), the active compound in Finaplix implants, is a synthetic steroid that is used for promotion of growth of beef cattle. By itself, TBA exerts only moderate effects on growth, performance and carcass characteristics of steers and heifers. When used in combination with estrogen(E)-containing implants, TBA results in dramatically increased growth, improved feed conversion e...

Growth-Promoting Implants for Beef Cattle

Growth-promoting implants offer beef cattle producers a safe and effective way to increase calf weight gains. Implants increase production of muscle tissue and often reduce body fat production. This results in significant improvements in both growth rate and feed efficiency. Despite the proven benefits of implant use, only 11.9 percent of beef cattle operations surveyed by the National Animal H...

Does Administration of Anabolic Growth Implants to Finishing Beef Cattle Influence Carcass Attributes of Cattle Genetically Indexed for Enhanced Beef Palatability?

Introduction According to the 2005 National Beef Quality Audit, one of the Top “Greatest Quality Challenges” cited by packers and for which the industry has made the least improvement since 1991 is reduced grade and tenderness due to anabolic growth implants. The report also cited improved or changes in genetics as a top change requested from cow-calf producers, stockers/backgrounders, and feed...

Growth Implants for Suckling and Growing Beef Cattle - FSA3019

To a great extent, animal growth is regulated by the pituitary gland and its secretions of growth hormone (somatotropin). Implants work by increasing (via the pituitary gland) growth hormone and insulin at the cellular level, which results in increased synthesis of muscle tissue and, frequently, reduced deposition of body fat. This causes a measurable increase in growth rate and improved feed e...

Comparison of alternative beef production systems based on forage finishing or grain-forage diets with or without growth promotants: 1. Feedlot performance, carcass quality, and production costs.

Forty Angus-cross steers were used to evaluate 5 beef cattle management regimens for their effect on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and cost of production. A 98-d growing phase was incorporated using grass silage with or without growth promotants (trenbolone acetate + estradiol implants, and monensin in the feed) or soybean meal. Dietary treatments in the finishing phase were deve...
